Strata-Store

Cheshire Energy Storage Centre

Supported by BEIS’ Longer Duration Energy Storage competition, the Cheshire Energy Storage Centre brings together world-class technological, engineering and operational expertise to help Britain achieve net-zero.

The StrataStore consortium is working to transform an existing gas storage site into a net-zero enabling solution. StrataStore will develop a commercial proposal for an Advanced-Compressed Air Energy Storage system that will store electrical energy as compressed air in caverns, with thermal storage to boost efficiency.

StrataStore will support the energy transition to net-zero by replacing energy security of natural gas by energy security of clean electricity. Long duration energy storage will allow further deployment of renewable electricity generation to support decarbonisation of the industries beyond electricity.

By bringing together elements with proven potential, the Cheshire Energy Storage Centre can meet Britain’s energy storage needs cost-effectively.
